Stop! That! Train!
Gellar is an unnamed "famous actress" in "Stop! That! Train!", the first-ever theatrical film from the Ru Paul's Drag Race universe. The film stars Ginger and Jujubee as Tess and DeeDee, attendants on the Glamazonian Express. RuPaul appears as American President Judy Gagwell. Directed by Adam Shankman, and written by Christina Friel and Connor Wright, Stop! That! Train! can be purchased from Amazon Prime Video. The film debuted in UK cinemas on 21 August.
The Guardian's Owen Myers wrote: "The humor in the film can be bawdy, with visual gags including Trojans and a rabbit vibrator on the bar cart, as well as a fantasy sequence involving DeeDee going to town on sexy train conductor Cal’s … chimney. But some of the most winning jokes could have come from an I Love Lucy episode, in a testament to the film’s sharp writing – it takes a lot more skill to get belly laughs with G-rated language than with dick jokes. When one young passenger arrives aboard the Glamazonian Express, the hostess directs him to his seat “next to the beautiful redhead”, as the camera pans to a Raggedy Ann-style doll. Utterly stupid and a total joy."
BREAKING BEAR
Gellar is Blair in TUBI's adult animated series "Breaking Bear". The show follows a dysfunctional family of bears who begin selling drugs to raise money and save their home after gas companies start fracking next to their cave. According to Next Season TV, the bears "soon enlist other forest animals in a scheme that will pit them against oil companies, The Russian Mafia, local Hell's Angels and polar bears who hate anything that isn't white." Blair is the middle sister, and the brains of the family. Other characters are: Jer (voiced by Brendan Fraser, who was Pleasure in "The Air I Breathe"), Alistair (Josh Gad), Tawny (Annie Murphy), and Wolf Queen (Elizabeth Hurley). All eight first-season episodes of BREAKING BEAR can be streamed on TUBI.
A video of Brendan Fraser, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Annie Murphy, and Elizabeth Hurley discussing Breaking Bear with Grae Drake and CBR at New York Comic Con is avaiable on YouTube.
Bad Summer People
Gellar will star in and executive produce "Bad Summer People", a TV adaptation (by Cara DiPaolo) of Emma Rosenblum's novel of the same name. The book is set in the fictional town of Salcombe, Fire Island and its main character are Jen Weinstein and Lauren Parker. A review by The Library Ladies summarized the novel's scenario:
Jen Weinstein and Lauren Parker rule the town of Salcombe, Fire Island every summer. They hold sway on the beach and the tennis court, and are adept at manipulating people to get what they want. Their husbands, Sam and Jason, have summered together on the island since childhood, despite lifelong grudges and numerous secrets. Their one single friend, Rachel Woolf, is looking to meet her match, whether he’s the tennis pro -- or someone else’s husband."
Numéro Netherlands Interview
Interviewer Jana Letonja of Numéro Netherlands asked Gellar how she chooses projects at this stage of her career. "The way I choose now is so different than the way I used to," Gellar responded. "In your 20s, you're so defined by your work. “What is my legacy, and what am I doing? And is this the job? And is this and this and this?” And now, I have a family, and my considerations are different. “If I'm leaving my family, is it a role I haven't done? Is it a world I haven't been a part of? Am I going to enjoy the experience?” I don't need to work just for work’s sake, I want to work and say, “Okay, if I left my family for this period of time, this was worth it, and this was that job.” This cast was full of actors that I respect, but now also that I love as people, and that doesn't happen very often."
